HRD Congress |
18-21th
Jan 2001 |
Ascent presents,
ATCOM Technologies-World HRD Congress 2000
Mumbai.
"The
omens are promising with an undoubted increase in awareness, albeit
at the germination stage only, of the need for a healthy, growing
and competitive organization. The lessons learnt in any branch of
management and organisational development have more linkages, a
common thread, similar challenges and shared solutions than is often
recognized. To remain competitive in the very tough global marketplace,
organizations have to look at some of the solution that have already
been developed and applied.
Every
business in the recent past has been dominated by intense and aggressive
competition from every conceivable corner of the globe. For any
business to operate in the global framework, the challenge before
it is to be world class. The world HRD congress will provide a few
glimpses of light at the end of the long, and very often, frightening
and despairing competitive tunnel........"
On this promising
note, the four-day conference organised by the 'Centre for Change
Management', from the 18-21 January, 2001 at Nehru Centre, Mumbai,
debated on the theme: "Building a World Class organisation
: Challenges & Opportunities". The program objectives were
aimed at creating a platform to share the best practices in HR of
global significance, and also to enable the best practices to migrate
across industry. It also conferred the best in HR practices, through
awards for HR Excellence.
Amongst the
distinguished panel of speakers from the industry, Douglas Breckenridge,
CEO, The Business Workshop, presented on "The Challenge of
Organisational Culture in a Global Environment". His session
focussed towards understanding the importance of Culture within
organisations, as well as the need to create the 'right culture',
in globally progressive companies.
He said that,
in order to compete globally, organisations are becoming more performance
driven. Therefore, when working with international teams, the challenge
for them also lay in ensuring that there is a right integration
of values, beliefs, customs and attitudes, in order to reach organisational
and individual goals.
Mr. Breckenridge
stressed that, with the ongoing pace of collaborations, Mergers
& Acquisitions, it was not only enough for organisations to
have a good 'strategic fit', but it was also important to have the
right 'cultural fit'. Therefore, it becomes very crucial to do a
careful assessment of cultures existing within the organisations
before undertaking such critical ventures.
