Communication

For
a moment think of a life without colours..text without pictures
and movies without visuals...everything will be plain black and
white!, when we actually sit down to think, we see how essential
these pictures, visuals and graphics are in the whole process of
communication. Sometimes no words are needed to explain what we
are trying to communicate. The visual says it all!
My profession
is to work with graphics, when I started my work as a graphic designer,
I never realised the importance of the tiny graphics that I used
to make, but somewhere in these past four years it dawned on me
that how relevant graphics are vis-a-vis communication. A simple
graphic in your presentation or a report can make all the difference.
I still remember,
we were working on the project on emotional Intelligence, and for
that we had to explain the functioning of brain called Amygdyla
Hijack, and we wanted some easy way to explain the process of brain.
Writing about the working process of brain was not enough for our
audience, rather it was becoming more complicated with just plain
text. When we looked at it from the point of view of the audience
it could have been too technical to grasp and boring too. So an
animation was created for this, which explained the whole process
very simply and in an interesting way. We also enjoyed thoroughly
while creating this animation, and it felt great when our audience
appreciated it a lot.
Another example
to show how we used graphics as a tool to communicate, we were working
on a project on Strategic selling skills, here, to be able to explain
different issues, we gave very simple graphics from our day to day
life. Like for idea tool, we made a graphic of a strainer, a magnifying
glass etc., and for strategy tool, graphic of a puzzle was created.
All these simple graphics with which we are very familiar and could
easily relate to, the concept of selling could be easily explained.
All these visuals
and graphics not only makes the product visually appealing, but
also gives a higher recall value to it. To be able to make a graphic
which communicates the message effectively, one has to first keep
in mind the target audience and then create a graphic/visual accordingly.
To keep the audience visually interested one must also keep things
simple. Communication as a whole must concentrate on the key concept
or on the core of the message.
Therefore,
whether one is giving a presentation, or designing a new logo for
his company, an appropriate graphic ensures the deserved attention
and enhances the whole communication process.
