Of Free Boundaries

Where
the mind is without fear...
Where the head is held high...
Where Knowledge is free...
...Little could Rabindranath
Tagore have guessed that these very words would one day be so
apt to describe the phenomena called the Internet. Lets face
it...the world today belongs to that very Internet which
has converted yesterday's 'rat-race' to today's 'mouse-race'
and opened up seemingly limitless vistas of information. Thus,
now, it is that much more accurate, in-depth, and of course,
immediate. With almost every aspect of our life becoming a website,
it would be a myopic (if not blind...) move to choose to remain
ignorant about this exciting medium of communication.
'Communication', as
described by the dictionary calls it 'the process of imparting
information' or 'to make known'. The Internet takes it a step
further, by not only providing us with the information on the
'what' we request it for, but even the 'hows' and the 'whys',
etc. Most importantly, it has allowed us access to the very latest
information that happens in any which part of the world.
Also, the replacing
of 'snail-mail' with the more dynamic and fast-paced 'E-mail'
has brought people from various parts of the world closer too.
It is that much easier to keep in touch with loved ones all across.
With facilities like Chat rooms and Instant messaging coming
up, even e-mails have taken a sort of a backseat in the process
of Communication.
From Hieroglyphics
in the Stone Age to Emoticons in the Net Age...man's penchant
for illustrative representation just doesn't seem to cease! Communicating
via pictoral representation can be used to depict feelings, lines,
tones, expressions...in other words, all that mere words in lines
may not be able to elocute as lucidly.
Coming back to the
Internet, it has allowed for innumerable ideas to turn into viable
entrepreneurial ventures...purely on its own strength and merit.
The advent of these enterprises seem to have all but erased the
words 'impossible' and 'improbable' from dictionaries. The empowerment
of 'imagination' is another way to describe it. Imagination to
create, to innovate, and to set free from conventional 'modes
of operandi'...
Despite the wondrous
nature of the medium, one has to admit that it is still at a
relatively nascent stage in India. There still are many more
miles left for this to take us even further as a means of communication...and....
where the world
has not been broken into fragments
by narrow domestic walls of reason....
